Last week we told you that Haiku is going to be even more mobile, interoperable, and synchronous. This week we tell you how!
Once again the items that made the list draw heavily from user suggestions. Actually, 95% of what we’re planning comes directly from the Haiku community! We want to say a HUGE thank you to our users for their excellent input. It’s your feedback that keeps Haiku doing what you need the way you need it.
Of course, not everything made the list, so you won’t see a revised calendar tool and centralized school calendar on the list. We’re sorry if that disappoints you, but you’ll find a number of other features that’ll make your day!
Ok, ok, go ahead and take a look the features and functions coming down the line.
Late 2010
- Dynamic Rosters (Institutional Feature). Quickly assign users to your classes by selecting “All Students in Grade 9” or “All Teachers at Examplevile Elementary.”
- Haiku Ecosystem (Institutional Feature). Access other services through Haiku in an even easier fashion! Haiku will implement Basic LTI, providing a quick and easy solution to achieve Single Sign On between Haiku LMS and other partners like Mixed Ink, SoftChalk and Learn That.
- Progress Reports. Create simple, beautiful printable “grade cards” on a term basis for your students to keep them (and their parents) up to speed on how they are performing in their classes. This is our top requested feature in our suggestion forum.
- SCORM. Import SCORM activities to play directly inside of Haiku LMS. Monitor progress in the module and import the results of your students’ work directly into your gradebook.
- Dropbox Annotations (Institutional Feature). Say goodbye to downloading student work! Haiku Learning is partnering with Tutor Trove to provide an amazing tool that gives you the ability to circle, scribble, and write directly over top of Word Docs, PDFs, Images, and many other file types inside of the Haiku Dropbox!
- Google Marketplace and Single Sign-on. Link Google Apps directly to Haiku LMS and sign in with the same login account. Move seamlessly between Haiku LMS and Google Docs.
Early 2011
- Resource Library. Enjoy the wisdom of your fellow teachers! Last year we released Share Content, which gives teachers the ability to share content simply by sending other users a link. The Resource Library will organize and centralize these resources by giving teachers the ability to browse and search shared resources (Pages, Blocks, Lesson Plans, Files, Audio, Video, and so on). Search your school or district for resources. If your school decides to subscribe to other publisher content, find, place, and access it directly from Haiku LMS without needing to log in twice.
- Class Directory and Registration System (Institutional Add-On Feature). Advertise classes for purchase, process credit card transactions, and watch students auto-register in your class rosters.
- Enhanced Discussions. The people have spoken, and they have asked for…more robust discussions! We are adding subject lines, threaded discussion views, and more.
- WebDAV and Haiku eLocker (Institutional Feature). Access your school’s network files at home directly through Haiku LMS! (This requires a WebDAV-enabled file server). If your school doesn’t support WebDav, you can still use Haiku as your portable file storage.
- Enhanced WikiProjects. Keep tabs on who has changed what, and even roll back to earlier versions! Set up default pages and blocks for each assignment to seed your students’ WikiSites.
- Design Themes. Want your own look to Haiku LMS? Teacher will be able to choose a color palette and upload a header and a footer for each of their Haiku classes.
- Printable Grade Charts. Quickly print grading grids with all assignments listed across the top and the full roster down the left hand side in a traditional ‘gradebook’ format. Teachers will be able to select the appropriate grading period. This feature will enhance the exisitng gradebook exports.
- Soft Delete. Avoid the accidental “whoops, I didn’t mean to do that.” The Haiku LMS soft delete will give teachers the ability to undelete mistakenly deleted information.
- An iPad App for Haiku? There are rumors…
Summer 2011
- HaikuMobile. Enjoy Haiku wherever you go. Perhaps the most requested feature on the HaikuMasters Users Group, Haiku is bringing its LMS to the mobile device. Participate in class Discussions, post Announcements, and add to your Haiku calendar—all from you iPhone, Android, or Blackberry phones.
- State Standards Support. The perfect companion to our Resource Library, Haiku will provide alignment tools so that you can browse, categorize, and search your resources via State Standards.
- Student Work Summary. Get a centralized view of all the homework, assessments, and projects a student has submitted—all via a single screen. Excellent for end-of-term reviewing and evaluation of each student’s body of work.
- Leader & Follower Classes (Institutional Feature). Just like follow the leader, you will be able to create ‘Leader’ classes that will push content to ‘Follower’ classes automatically. Perfect for delivering regular curriculum updates from a centralized source.
Well, what do you think?
